As I sit here in Starbucks on a HOT summer September day, I’m reflecting on the highs and lows of my life. It’s hard not to get down on yourself when you think that you should be further along in your journey than you are. You began to think about the left turn you took when you should have gone right or that one time you said yes, when CLEARLY you should have said NO!
Someone reminded me, via Twitter, the other day that we are in the last quarter of 2013. Wait..what? The LAST quarter. Where has the year gone!?!?!? Rather than subjecting myself (and others around me) to a wall slide, I decided to make the best use of this time to address some areas in my life, but also to make some NECESSARY adjustments.
I’m disenchanted with a few areas in my life and usually that keeps me in some sort of holding pattern where I hash and rehash where I’ve gone wrong or when I made a misstep. That is not my approach this time. I will face it head on and call it what it is…laziness, fear, disappointment and work through it, even if I have to do it “afraid”. Doing this is directly connected to my destiny.
Propel –to drive, push, or cause to move in a particular direction; typically forward. The major disappointments, hurts, and “what the whats” are to be used to propel me into my destiny. Sometimes that is a hard thing to believe, as our tendency is to hide that or be ashamed of it.
When your destiny (purpose) has gotten to the point where you are unable to rest or sleep or talk about anything else, you are right where God wants you to be. This is a really rough place because, at least for me, I. Can’t. Hear. God. Yes, I feel Him moving in my life, but I don’t hear Him. There is a quote that says, “The teacher is silent during the test”. It is during this time that you have to draw from the lessons and be confident in knowing that you are prepared for the test.
So, as you began the task of “finishing the year STRONG” and whether you’re happy about your current position or you are struggling to just stay afloat, remember that EVERYTHING that you are going through, the good, the bad, and the ugly, are all propelling you into your destiny.
